Our Intermediate Alpine Mountaineering Courses are great to follow on from one of our Introductory Alpine courses or from a good experience of personal technical climbing on home hills. They require some prior experience of rock and/or snow-ice climbing and as there is a big step up in difficulty from easier PD snow climbs to more technical AD level mixed routes. Neat efficient climbing technique on tricky and exposed terrain is demanded and good general mountain fitness is essential.
Full instruction is given in the more advanced rope-work and technical skills required. Our Intermediate weeks operate at a 2:1 guiding ratio and aim to climb high quality AD routes building participants skills and confidence along the way.
Technical level: snow slopes up to 55 degrees, snow/ice faces up to 75 degrees, rock scrambling/climbing of Alpine grade III/IV, UK Severe/VS level, exposed narrow ridges.; Scottish winter grades II to III; Alpine grades PD and AD.
To find out about the fitness and technical skills required for our courses and guided peaks and to find suitable preparatory courses see our fitness and course pre-requirements.
