Ideal as a skills refresher or short introduction to climbing in the Alps, these 3 days of instruction in the Arolla valley will show you all the skills you need to cope with Alpine terrain.
Designed for mountaineers and climbers seeking basic alpine skills or those wanting to practice and update their existing skills. We will look at snow, ice and rock techniques including glacier travel. Some prior experience of winter mountaineering and/or roped climbing is helpful, but we will guide you from first steps in all the essential Alpine skills. Itineraries are tailored to group experience and aspirations.
Sample programme:
Day 1: Arrive in Evolene from 2pm. Meet your guide in the evening and check equipment followed by dinner at 7.30pm
Day 2: Walk in to Dix hut (2928m) via Pas de Chevres ladders. Climb short rocky ridge route on the way. Coaching in snowcraft and ropework in the afternoon.
Day 3: Traverse Pigne d'Arolla (F 3790m) with glacier training en route - crampon skills, ice climbing, crevasse rescue then overnight in the Vignette hut (3158m).
Day 4: Ascend L'Eveque (PD- 3,716m). Return to Arolla via Col de Vignettes.
Day 5: Departure.
Price includes: 3 days of guided climbing, all guides expenses, transport during the course and 2-3 nights half board* valley accommodation plus afternoon tea and packed lunches.
*Excludes your own insurance, gear hire, hut costs and cost of dinner out in restaurant on Friday night (for those courses running Tuesday to Saturday).
