A week of Guided Off Piste Skiing and Ski Touring in the Arolla Valley...
The Val d'Hérens has lots of challenging Off Piste Skiing, best accessed by touring from the 3 small lift areas in Arolla, Evolene and Nax. This is not an extreme skiing week (!) but aimed at skiers who can climb 1000m+ per day and ski 40 degrees on day tours.
We will aim to cover techniques for skiing on steeper ground, safety aspects of operating on steep ground (use of ropes etc), climbing while carrying skis and organising groups on steeper ground. Of course, we'll do lots of great skiing too with our team of British Mountain Guides using Graham Frosts local knowledge to find the best conditions on steeper lines!
Possible objectives include the Tsalion Couloir, Vouasson North Face, Tsena Refien, Couloir des Toilettes/Vuibé Glacier (both accessed after skinning to the Vignettes hut).
Our steeper skiing week is based at the Grand Hotel Kurhaus in Arolla. This is a historic, traditional Swiss hotel with English speaking staff and ski in / ski out access to the Arolla lift system.
The course runs from Saturday to Saturday (meet in the hotel Saturday evening, check out the following Saturday morning).
The price includes:
- 6 days of guided skiing (group ratio 4:1),
- all guides expenses,
- 7 nights half board accommodation (in shared room).
You'll need to arrange suitable insurance and your own transport to and from Arolla.
You should bring suitable personal skiing equipment including boots, skis, skins, sticks, crampons, harness, helmet (if preferred) and rucksack. We can arrange to hire any of these items for you, please see our gear section for prices. You can download our ski touring kit list here.
