Our Intermediate/Advanced level Ice Climbing Progression Course is the next step in Ice Climbing. Building on previous experience, climbing steeper, longer routes, learning to lead or just doing more climbing - this course is very flexible. You'll need good fitness - steeper ice is hard work.
This course will be a maximum 1:2 ratio allowing more technical climbing on multi pitch routes.
Some likely points to look at:
- Steeper climbing
- Technique coaching
- Leashless tools and mono points - modern equipment
- Moving faster up and down longer routes
- Judging snow and ice conditions
- Learning to lead on ice
Our Progression courses are based in Cogne at the Petit Hotel which offers comfortable rooms plus a swimming pool, sauna and turkish bath - perfect for easing aching muscles and warming up after a hard days climbing. Arolla is also an option (with ability to move to other venues mid week).

The Progression course costs £1,885 which includes:
- 5 days of guided climbing,
- all guides expenses, and
- 6 nights accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis (in shared twin room).
Eating out in the evening in Cogne is inexpensive - from around Euro12 per night or there is a Euro16 half board supplement in the Petit Hotel if you prefer.
You'll need to arrange suitable insurance including cancellation insurance, and your own transport to and from Cogne.
You should bring suitable personal climbing equipment including boots, technical axes and crampons, harness, helmet and rucksack. We can arrange to hire any of these items for you, please see our gear section for prices. You can download our ice climbing kit list here.
We can run our Introduction and Ice Climbing Progression courses at any venue (Arolla, Kandersteg, Cogne etc) for groups of 2 (or more) by arrangement. Please contact us to check availability.
What our clients say:
"Have had a fantastic time ice climbing thanks to Graham Frost of frost guiding and his lovely wife Janine, a bit mad she may be! Who on earth skis uphills!" RT February 2015, Arolla
"Thanks, Graham, for - once again - an amaaaaazing few days climbing. It was heaps of fun, we 'covered loads of ground', and I think you squeezed pretty much everything you could out of both of us"
John and Avi, February 2015, Cogne
