Ski Touring
Ski touring is what skiing is all about! It isn't just a sport for the super-fit - even a short day tour will take you to a different world, far from the crowded pistes. Skiing fresh tracks into a deserted valley is a great experience, and well worth the effort.
With a few basic skills longer tours are possible, staying overnight in mountain huts. The classic "Haute Route" is probably the most famous ski-tour in the world, but there are countless other possibilities.

The ski-tour season runs from January right through to june. Early season can give great touring on lower peaks. It's a good time to do an intro course as preparation for a longer tour later in the year.
The main season starts mid march, when the huts open and the glaciers are well snow-covered. Skiing stays good as late as june on 4000m peaks, and even Mont Blanc.
